Concord goes to Newburyport Bike Trails

The Concord YES Team met the Newburyport GOMI team in Newburyport to take a bike tour of the city and learn about how they are becoming a more sustainable city. We heard about the recycling programs the city has and checked out their compost dump which makes compost and wood chips from which the city makes money. We biked to downtown Newburyport on a paved bike path which we are hoping to get in Concord. The Merrimack River Greenway Trail will be a paved bike path in Concord.

We went to the downtown and visited the tannery, a mall of local businesses in an old tannery. The owner talked about the green technology in the building including using old building supplies and putting in solar panels.

Our teams both learned a lot about how a city can be green and Concord got some good ideas of things to look into in our own town. Thank you to theNewburyport team and city officials who helped with our tour!
